Labour fail to oppose County Health cuts...

The rest of the County Council voted for this but not the Labour Group who abstained...

“This County Council deplores the financial top-slicing of
the primary care trust budget in Worcestershire, which is
forcing the 3 Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) to dramatically
cut services across the county.

We urge the Strategic Health Authority to re-consider the
decision to top slice budgets, bearing in mind that the
majority of PCTs would, this year, have been in financial
balance but for this top-slicing.

We are also concerned that the proposed reduction in
many of the services will impact upon the County
Council’s pooled budgets with the health authorities.”

...Labour let us down again!

We may be wrong but many Labour members appeared to be very shame faced over the event. The Labour Group were certainly very subdued at lunch time.

Courses...

...available to Wyre Forest Councillors and staff apparently include "Meetings, Bloody Meetings", "More Bloody Meetings", "I Wasn't Prepared For That", "Discipline and Grievance" and if that fails "If Looks Could Kill". Personally I'm tempted by the one on "Grave Shoring". Mind you I'm not sure I fancy "An Inside Job - Meeting internal customer needs"!

Mobile Phone Masts Review...

The Report compiled by the Prosperity Panel and approved by the Cabinet Scrutiny Committee last night goes to the Cabinet of the Wyre Forest District Council today. It's well worth reading.

Find the Report here and the results of the Young People's Mobile Phone Survey here. Both are in pdf format.

Highways Matters...

All County Councillors have been asked by the County Council to compile a list of the TEN WORST highways issues in their County Divisions. Here on the right is Mike’s list so far. Can YOU think of anything that he has missed that ought to be on the list? If so phone Mike on 823911 or use the form on the back page to let him know.
Are these the worst St Chads local highways issues?
  • Match Day parking problems;.
  • Parking problems in the roads around the Railway Station;
  • Offmore Road — road surfacing;
  • Shakespeare Drive — road surfacing;
  • Road surfacing on Borrington Road and along onto Tennyson Way near and around the mini-island;
  • Cherry Orchard — road surfacing;
  • Comberton Estate — grass verges;
    Barnetts Lane traffic flow;
  • Comberton Road—need to remove dangerous cover by Chester Road Junction;
  • Lyndholm Road and Eastwood Drive — road surfacing.

Please remember:-

  • The list covers the whole St Chads County Division not just the Offmore & Comberton District Ward;
  • We haven’t mentioned Lea Street and Lorne Street road surfaces as they are already due to be done;
  • We haven’t mentioned the A449 or A456 (including the Husum Way Junction) because they are run by the Government’s Highway’s Agency and NOT the County Council and so have to be tackled separately.

Tennyson Way! Progress at last?!

The local County Councillor has welcomed the latest plans to improve road safety at Tennyson Way on Kidderminster's Offmore Farm Estate.

Cllr Mike Oborski said "after six months of confusion, back pedalling and evasiuon the County Council seem at long last to have come to their senses. The new package of proposals are first rate!"

The new proposals are for:-

  • A Zebra Crossing on Tennyson Way in front of Masefield Gardens;
  • A min-island at the Wordsworth Crescent (school end) / Tennyson Way junction;
  • Kerb build outs on Tennyson Way to narrow the road and slow speeding traffic;
  • Anti skid surfaces on Tennyson Way;
  • Additional kerb build outs on Wordsworth Crescent;
  • Marking out the layby by Offmore First School as a bus bay;
  • A clearly marked crossing point to the school on Wordsworth Crescent.

"These proposals should make Tennyson Way much safer for youngsters travelling to and from Offmore First School as well as for all local residents both by providing a safe crossing and reducing the speed of through traffic."

"There will be full local public consultation and hopefully work will be completed by Christmas" said Cllr Oborski.

Wyre Forest Schools Review...

Offmore & Comberton area update...

Comberton Primary School…
...will be completely rebuilt probably on the playing field fronting Borrington Road between the existing First School and Tanglewood. Building will probably take place in 2010 but before then a new Childrens Centre is likely to be provided.

Offmore Primary School…
...will get additional classrooms and hopefully some Children's Centre "Outreach" facilities by 2008.

King Charles I High School…
...We are still waiting to hear about the rebuild of King Charles I High School. The Comberton School site looks likely. Certainly they will be using the Comberton Middle School site to meet some of their needs for some years to come.

Wyre Forest Special Schools…
...We should know by September what the long term plans are for the Stourminster School site.

From Offmore & Comberton Focus...

Massive Petition Response!
We have now sent off the Petition — with thousands of signatures — opposing plans to ban turns off the Birmingham Road onto Chester Road. Let’s hope we kill the proposal stone dead!

Borrington Park developments...
The new BMX track at Borrington Park should be finished and ready for use before the school holidays starts report Cllrs Mike and Fran Oborski and Siri Hayward . The design will be identical to the one at Cookley. Work will also take place to prevent dogs being able to get under the gate from the dog walking area into the park.

Borrington Park dog fouling…
We would urge all dog owners NOT to take dogs anywhere near the Borrington Park Play area. Please, please keep dogs to the dog walking area only!

Norton Road "No Ball Games"...
The long awaited “No Ball Games” sign has now been erected on land at the junction of Norton Road and Broom Crescent. Meanwhile Fran has also asked for the grit bin to be removed.

Land at Hawford Avenue / Queen Elizabeth Road junction…
Discussions are taking place with the Housing Company to see if this area can be landscaped to prevent its use for ball games and to prevent cars being parked on the footpath in front of some of the Hawford Avenue houses.

Comberton Arms site…
We have been promised that building work will start here before the school holidays.

Replacement Bollards!
Replacement bollards have been ordered for the Somerleyton Avenue / Chaddesley Road / Comberton Road junction. The new bollards have a steel interior and will be much harder to remove!

Barrie Avenue embankment…
After weeks of nagging we have finally managed to get the District Council to mow half way down the embankment. They say that they can't do any of the lower area because of Health and Safety rules! We are NOT happy. They need to find a way to sort it and we are still pushing the matter!

Belvedere Close…
We have asked highways to tidy up the bollarded area by the tree near the entrance to Somerleyton Court.

Barnetts Lane…
We have asked County Highways to carry out a formal consultation over the proposals, put forward by local residents, for the cul-de-saccing of this road.

Comberton Road…
Severn Trent have promised to remove the dangerous kerb side cover on the town and station side of Comberton Road just below the Chester Road junction.

Police merger stalls...
We are delighted that the new Home Secretary has agreed to delay plans for the forced merger of Police forces across the West Midlands. Let’s hope they get dropped altogether!

Hospital Bus service…
News that the acute Hospitals Trust is to stop funding the bus service provided to move staff around between hospital sites in the County means we have to be really vigilant and make sure that they don't cut the Hospital bus service used by patients.

Betjeman Court…
After a long delay the new street name signs are there at last!

Husum Way Congestion Threat...

Offmore and Comberton Liberal Councillors Mike Oborski, Fran Oborski and Siri Hayward say that "The Government’s Highways Agency intends to reduce the A456 Birmingham Road from Blakedown to Husum Way down to a single lane in much the same way as they have done to the A449 Worcester Road between Ombersley and Hartlebury"

"They hope that this will cut accidents but the worry is that we may end up with a constant single streamn of traffic at peak times making it even more difficult to get out of Husum Way to turn right to Birmingham."

The Councillors are consulting local residents on the issue and are making their concerns clear to highways officers.
