BBC World is a useless so-called "News Channel"
Being out of UK means that if you want news in English you either: buy UK newspapers at an often exhorbitant cost OR you try to get news on tv in English.
CNN is fine, Deutch Weller is ok; France 24 English section is ok but BBC World is the pits and we pay for this rubbish through our licence fees and taxes!
For the whole month of August their main feature has been on the 60th Anniversary of Independence on India and Pakistan! Important? Yes. The only thing to feature on for a month? Why?
Their news coverage is dire. So Hurricane Dean didnt cause mass deaths, I'm very glad but why NO relevant European News?
3 people drowned in sudden storms on Poland's Mazurian Lakes, 10 others are missing! It made CNN, and French and German TV but not BBC! In fact I haven't seen anything about anywhere in Europe on BBC World. And as for the good old BBC Radio World Service in English? Well you can get it in the middle of the night in Kidderminster but NOT in Central Europe!!!
As licence fee payers we are being seriously ripped off!
Thank heavens for the Shuttle on line!!

It's hot here in Poland!!

Like Tavis (Wyre Forest Agenda) I find it hard to concentrate on blogging when away!!

It's really hot in Poland, I've just had a week on the coast at a super 4* resort hotel with Marcin and Michal, Mike's cousin Wojtek's two kids. It was great, a private beach reached via a 300yd path through a pine forest, hotel indoor aqua park, cinema and bowling and, best for me, a full spa centre!!

The drive back to Warsaw yesterday (Sat) was 10 hours of pure hell with road works, heavy traffic, farm vehicles, hgv's; you name it, we met it! However we found a super barbeque area at a "Skansen" (sort of mini outdoor museum) just north of Bydgoscz and had a good lunch. The clientel was amazing, families, business guys AND...The Polish Valkyrie Riders, a sort of Hell's Angels Chapter with the most fantastic Harley Davidsons!! The were great guys to talk to and really proud to show off their super machines!!

I'm off to stay with Tadek's widow, Basia for a couple of days tomorrow and then back to Warsaw for the final week. Hope to see Mike's pal Jan Ruskowski and his wife Orla and their two little one's as well as doing a bit of serious shopping and taking in some culture! Can't buy anything heavy as, unusually for me, I flew with Norwegian from Birmingham, super cheap airline who allocate seats at check-in so no mad rush!!

Back to Wyre Forest next week!!!

Back to Rhydd Covert

This afternoon saw me back at Rhydd Covert meeting two of the Polish Scout Leaders who are looking to stay and work locally for a while.

Tory Cabinet member Marcus Hart was there in his Scout Leader role. I didn't embarrass him by taking a photo!!

I know he comes in for some ribbing about his Scouting but I think it is really great that he finds time to do this really valuable youth work.

We need far more adults to give up their time to support movements such as Scouts and Guides. Well done Marcus, keep up the good work (it usefully takes him away from politics too!!)

No!! The Council is NOT being recommended to provide a Mini-Moto riding facility!

Despite what you may have read in the papers the Council's Community and Regeneration Committee are recommending that the Council does NOT get involved in setting up a Club to provide mini motos with a riding facility. What we ARE recommending to the Cabinet is:

  • The Council should spend £500 producing educational leaflets and put an article in Newswyre to inform parents about the dangers of MOST min motos which are illegal, unsafe and CANNOT be safely used in the UK. It will also advise about the restrictions on using them i.e ONLY on private land with the landowners consent.
  • The Police should be invited to facilitate the setting up of a club, with the support of the ACU, using trained adults on privately owned car parks at weekends, to train young people whose parents are prepared to buy the more expensive, SAFE min motos, in safe riding techniques!!
